The Library at Burning Man

The Black Rock Library has been at the premier worldwide burn event in the USA since 2013. Camp Bibliophilia is a (respectful and admiring) distant relation of BRL, but we come from different traditions – Little Free Libraries in our case vs Public Libraries in theirs. Their checkout policy is one year, whereas we try to encourage people NOT to bring our books back (or indeed bring us any books at all**) but instead if they wish pass them on to other people. That’s to say, BRL ‘say’ their checkout policy is strictly one year but you can never be entirely sure what’s real and what’s not at a burn event.

In any case, if you’ve a hankering to be at – or find yourself at – Burning Man, look up the Black Rock Library and say hello. And borrow a book. But be sure to return it!

** The exception to our ‘no donations, thanks’ policy are childrens books in very good condition.
