Whodunnits – #1 Ancient and Medieval

We like a good whodunnit, and if there’s a chance of dipping into history all the better.  We have books by three writers who’ve done it better than most.

Ellis Peters – Cadfael series.  Set in a medieval English monastery on the borders of Wales.  We’ve got about 12 of the 20+ novels
Ruth Downie – Medicus series.  A Roman Army doctor teams up with a British warrior-princess to solve crimes and sort out his disorded domestic affairs.  A set of 8, of which we have two at the moment
Robert van Gulik – Judge Dee series.  Based on a 7th Century Chinese detective, we have one of the 14 novels written by this Dutch diplomat who became an expert on the Chinese Lute, and Chinese sexual practices.
