John Mack was invited to Blazing Swan back in 2016 and brought along 1,500 books to hide behind when things got a bit too intense. Someone generously donated a space, and that’s how the Library at Blazing Swan came into being, and how it’s worked ever since – a space to retreat and recharge surrounded by books, sustained through the efforts of generous friends.
My attendance has been a bit hit and miss since then, but when I haven’t been with the Library I have been volunteering in various roles with Blazing Swan. I’ve stepped back from all that last year and now I’ll see out my remaining time with the library while dabbling in my other interests of astronomy, microscopy and kites
My favourite book selection:
Cancer Ward, Solzhenitsyn
The Lady and the Monk, Pico Iyer
The Phantom of the Temple, Robert Van Gulik
The Art of the Japanese Kite, Tal Streeter
The Civil War, 3 vol, Shelby Foote
Byzantium, 3 vol, John Julius Norwich
A History of Australia, 6 vol, Manning Clarke
Victory, Joseph Conrad
The Jacaranda Tree, H.E. Bates
Official History of Australia in the War of 1914-1918, 6 vol, C.E.W. Bean
The Soul of a New Machine, Tracy Kidder
