Gattopardo

I see that a new version of Lampedusa’s great novel, ‘The Leopoard’ has come out on one of the streaming services – and that they didn’t completely muck it up. The original movie with Burt Lancaster was stunning, and worth finding.  You don’t have to look so hard for the book – we have two copies at the library at Camp Bibliophilia at Blazing Swan in 2025..

The cover of the Fontana Modern Novels edition (pictured) is by Ken Carroll and is a classic in its own right.  And a bit of trivia – originally published in Italian in 1958, the Italian for leopard’ is gattopardo.  Which as FAR as I can tell doesn’t translate as ‘spotted cat’.  But I’m ready to be corrected.
