Books for bird lovers or those that are just bird curious. ‘The Field Guide to Australian Birds’ by Michael Morcombe, and from back in Blaze 20218, a book of oddball and interesting stories about Australian birds. Why not also pick up another field guide, our copy of ‘Birds ofthe Greater South West of Western Australia’ – covering all that ground from Carnarvon through Kal and down to Esperence.
There’s also the opportunity to pick up that brick of a book (at 3kg), the Readers Digest Complete Book of Australian Birds. With 613 pages of beatifully photographed birds, this is definitely NOT a field guide but instead something for the coffee table (and for putting on things that need flattening).

MIGRATORY BOOKS
A copy of the classic Simpson & Day Field Guide to the Birds of Australia has just turned up in a box in Albany, but it’s marked ‘Blazing Swan 2018’. So it’s made at least one journey from Albany up to Kulin and back already. If you know them, it’s the one with the vinyl cover and the profiles of beaks of seabirds drawn on the endpapers. So you can hold the beaks of dead birds washed up on the beach up against the pictures. A bit macabre, maybe wash your hands afterwards….
