As the world descends further into madness I’m reminded of a talk given by an African writer to a shell-shocked audience just after the 2nd World Trade Centre attack. He had grown up under an oppressive regime and had been imprisoned and tortured. He’d been a refugee for many years before yet another in an endless series of wars overthrew that Government and allowed him to return home. He related all this, and then paused and said, “Welcome to my world”.
