We’ve got a pretty solid collection of tales of the Antarctic. I can’t say why exactly, but I do remember reading Aspley Cherry-Garrard’s, ‘The Worst Journey in the World’ back when I lived in tropical Darwin – long before air conditioners were a thing – and feeling the cold that ACG wrote about. We got that one at the library of course, and more besides, including many featuring or by Australians, such as ‘South of Sixty’ by Michael Warr, and Tim Bowden’s, ‘The Silence Calling’ and ‘Antarctica and Back in 60 Days’.
South!
